Porsche Or Ferrari? -

The Porsche Carrera GT is unofficially a racecar, one that is built for the street. What makes this a racecar is not necessarily the huge power produced by the V10 engine, or the carbon fiber construction that keeps it very lightweight - although these do make it a very fast car. It’s more the sum of it’s parts that make this car worth every bit of it’s $440,000 price tag.

The Porsche Carrera GT was originally introduced as a 2004 model, and by 2005 there were a few changes due to make the Carrera GT the new porshce super car. The changes were only minor, just to make it a little more street friendly. In between the supplemental bar hoops there is now a glass screen. The seat’s height were adjusted and there was more bolstering in the thigh area added. You cannot miss the Carrera GT, it’s a low, sleek, lightweight roadster, just as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. There are two removable panels that can be stored in the trunk for your bad weather protection.

There are unique features to the car, among which are the 5.7 litre, 605 break horse power V10 engine, the monocoque chassis with Porsche-patented engine, the transmission mounts made of carbon reinforced plastic, and the first use of a ceraminc composite clutch in a production car. An important aspect is that the carrera GT is safe and stable at speeds up to 205 mph, thanks to its aerodynamic and race-bred suspension package.

The design of the suspension is so sophisticated that the shape of it’s components improve the car’s aerodynamins. The designers of the Carrera GT used lightweight materials for it’s substantial wheels and the frames of the special sports seats, the result being a faster and safer car. Just how fast is fast? Well, the carrera GT accelerates from a standing start to 62 mph (100 kmh) in just 3.9 seconds and reaches 100 mph (160kmh) in less that seven seconds, and 125 mph (200 kmh), in less than 10 seconds, it also can achieve a top test-track speed of 205 mph (330 kmh).

Porsche Carrera GT is definitely a exotic appearance, a car that can do it all: fascinate you with its good looks, and astound you with its performance and abilities on the race track.

Bmw Z4 Coupe Or Porsche Cayman? -
In 1975 Porsche introduced the first Turbo. The engineers
experienced this new engine and Chairman Ernst Fuhrman
decided that they could use a turbo on a production car. The
first prototype was displayed at several European shows in
1973. In 1974, ?911 Turbo? went on sale and at the time it had
a 3.0 liter 260 bhp engine.

The new Porsche was full of luxury. The standard Turbo had
air-conditioning, electric windows, tinted glass, headlamp washers,
a leather interior and Bilstein shocks. Originally, it was supposed
to be a limited edition, with only 500 models to be sold. However,
the demand was so high that more than 1000 cars were sold. It was
now clear that Turbo would have a secure future.

What attracted so many customers was its huge rear wing, widened
wheel and big tires. This great look combined with the powerful engine
made the Turbo look faster than any other 911.

In 1978, the model was improved by the increase of the engine
capacity to 3.3 liter and some other modifications. Now the engine
produced 40 bhp more. The rear wing was also revised: the two
separate grilles were replaced by one larger smooth surface, placed
a little higher in order to make room for an intercooler.

In 1979 though, the Turbo was withdrawn from US and Japan, as a
response to the second energy crunch.

In 1986, Turbo became again available in the US. This was the first
year Porsche used flares that were created in the stamping ? process
of the fenders. In 1992 Porsche showed the Turbo S at Geneva’s
Motorshow. It?s engine delivered 381 bhp. The car weighted 120
kg less then the standard Turbo and this helped making Turbo S
really fast. There were built only 80 Turbo S.

In 1993, the engine capacity was increased again, now reaching 3.6
liter. It was easily recognized by the Turbo 3.6 badge. Also, there was
a 93 Turbo 3.6 based 911 Turbo S built.

In 1996 Porsche launched yet another Turbo, based on the 993 series.
Its engine produced 408 bhp, featuring a six-speed gearbox and
four-wheel drive. It looked more elegant thanks to the less evocative
rear-wing. The wheels are 18 inch in diameter. It saves 20% of the
weight because the five spokes are hollow. The front wing has
air-ducts that lead extra cooling air to the brakes, making them more
powerful than before. They can stop the Turbo from 100 hm/h in 2.6
seconds and from 200km/h in just 5 seconds, increasing car?s safety.

Porsche has recently introduced the 996 Turbo. The styling is different
from the previous Turbo models. Its aerodynamics are improved, making
it much faster than the 993 Turbo. It gets to 100 km/h in only 4.2
seconds and has a top speed of 305 km/h. The new Turbo has a few
details that make it easy to recognize: bi-xenon headlights, air intakes
behind the doors and a movable rear-spoiler.

Though it’s not due to be officially launched until July 28th the cagey bloggers at German Car Scene have captured some early images of the new Porsche 911 Targa.

The car pictured here is apparently the all-wheel-drive Targa 4 and seems to have the same movable glass lid as the out-going model. Tune in later this month as we uncover more news about the panoramic Porsche, as well as a whole host of new images.Until then check out the link below for a few additional 997-model Targa pics.

Next Generation Porsche 911 Spied!

While Porsche has just finished launching its new 911, the car is really more of a half step between true generational changes for the seminal sports car. So with the 997.5 911 heading out to customers, the German automaker has unleashed the very first stages of its test program for the next car, the 998 model 911.

The Porsche faithful will be unsurprised (and no doubt a bit relieved) to see that the 998 seems at first blush to be another tiny step in the glacial visual evolution that is 911 design. We can make out a set of more robustly blistered fenders, hinting at a slightly wider track, but not a lot else at this point to differentiate the car from its 997 older brother. Expect more and further visual changes as the spy shots continue to roll in, before the car makes its expected debut in 2011.

Scroll down to read the shooter’s own words.

The 997 facelift has just been official, and that was the sign that the test crew from Porsche where waiting for. Now they can concentrate them self in testing the next generation 911, probably named 998.

Here are the first photos of that early test mule. We can clearly see the wider fenders on this prototype indicating that the car at least seems to be wider, length still looks the same. But we have to remember, this is still an very early mule and a lot can change until 2011 when the 998 is expecting to hit the showrooms

Porsche Gears Up for a Possible Takeover -

A ?close,? as you know, is a stylized way of bringing a sales conversation to a positive conclusion. Technically, it is the place at which we ask for approval.

We?re seeking a yes, but not in a way that sounds dumb, insecure, or undeserving. Thus, we?re not asking: ?Would you like to buy this?? though this is probably better than not asking at all.

A close is stylized, there?s thought put into its construction.

In a prior article I analyzed one of my favorite closes: ?So, let?s move forward and I know you?ll be pleased, okay??

It?s a tie-down close, also known as an assumptive check-back close. This means we make a decision and then check it with the buyer for a quick endorsement.

?So, let?s move forward and I know you?ll be pleased? is a decision. We?re saying we?re moving from here to there.

And then we seek an ?Okay,? a reflexive, knee-jerk approval to our ?Okay??

Another, tried-and-true way to ask for the order is the ?choice? close. It is quite simple.

A prospect is looking at a shiny, new Porsche in the showroom and the seller comments, ?It?s nice in the red, or do you prefer the blue??

Just two people having a pleasant chat, but suddenly the car?s admirer made a commitment, if only to the color. Next, they can talk about the horsepower, the smaller or the larger engine, and after that they can weigh in on buying or leasing.

Before you know it, a staggered series of choices leads to a sale.

A choice close is perfect for setting appointments.

?The schedule indicates a good time to stop by and say hello will be Tuesday at 10, or will Wednesday work out better for you??

You don?t want to complicate a choice with, well, too many choices. For instance, in the last passage the ONLY choice was the DAY of the proposed meeting: Tuesday or Wednesday.

We don?t want to say: ?The schedule indicates a good time to stop by and say hello will be Tuesday at 10, or will Wednesday at 2, work out better for you??

Cognitively, buyers have difficulty thinking of BOTH days and times, simultaneously.

You can even use it with kids: ?Your chore for the day is to either clean up the kitchen or wash the car; which do you prefer??

Whatever they choose, you win!

The New Luxury Porsche Panamera - Coming 2008 -

Ferdinand Porsche was an automobile engineer with more than a thousand patents to his name, and played an important role in the development of airplanes and the construction of tanks for the Wehrmacht as well. In the 1920s he was appointed chief engineer at Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart and later set up his own engineering workshop. There he designed, among other things, the Volkswagen. He acted as chief of operations at the plant where the Volkswagen was made, Wolfsburg, and at the end of the war he was interned by the Allies.

He was released a few years later and immediately went to work building his first car with his son, Ferry Porsche. This car was named the Porsche 356, after Ferry, and was a sports car with styling reminiscent of the Volkswagen. In fact it had the same four-cylinder boxer engine, and wore it rear-mounted, just as the VW did. This meant that it was far from being a powerful sports car, boasting a mere 40 bhp and a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h). Distinguished by its elegant and innovative body, the Porsche 356 was first produced as a convertible and then as a hard top. Father and son developed it in the workshop of Erwin Komenda, a master of restrained streamlining who had been in charge of sheet metal and design techniques for Ferdinand Porsche since the VW Beetle. This new style of closed coupe designed by Komenda soon became the embodiment of the sports car, due in part to its “fastback”.

Erwin Komenda and Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, the founder’s grandson, continued this tradition with the 911.

The 911 became instantly recognizable: it had an attractive sloping bonnet reminiscent of the 356, what later became characterized as “frog eye” headlights, curves running from the top edge of the windscreen to the rear bumper, and a straight waistline. From a functional and technical point of view it shared more in common with a BMW 1500, but it retained the distinctive stylistic features of the original Porsche. The new 911 became the keystone of Porsche’s identity, even though the design was not always fully appreciated. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, many Porsche designers attempted to distance Porsche from its legendary design and nearly brought the company to the edge of disaster. The more modern 924 model, “a people’s Porsche”, developed with Volkswagen, as well as the 928 fell short fulfilling expectations, and failed to allow the company to branch out in new directions and styles.

However, in the 1990’s the company seemed to realize that what some perceived as a stylistic straitjacket was in fact a market advantage. During this period Porsche embraced the timeless nature of classic styling to become highly profitable. Nearly forty people now worked in the design department solely dedicated to further improvement of the long running 911. Such developments included the 911 GTI, put forward by the in-house designer Anthony R. Hatter as a powerful combination of sports and racing car. In 1999, Porsche’s chief designer proudly unveiled the new Boxster, enabling Porsche to establish a second independent range of successful models.

Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia in Detail -

Canyon Racing at its Extreme

The adrenaline is picking up as I enter my playground of Canyon Racing. I am driving at Larch Mountain Highway in green old western Oregon. A twisty highway surrounded by a gigantic pine tree rainforest. The trees are so high; the sun does not make it to the road half the time. The fun begins after I pass the last few country houses. After that I rarely see a car. Like a deserted road. The speed picks up as my red 80?s Porsche accelerates. I feel my heart starting to beat harder as I try to remain calm pushing the gas pedal. I reposition myself in the seat relaxing. As I hear the old Porsche engine revving through the RPM, I can?t help it but be nervous, because I don?t know what to expect next. The first few turns I take it easy while keeping the transmission in third gear with my sweaty palm on the warm vibrating shift knob. I remember some of the turns that lie ahead.

I enter a smooth right, my foot lightly shaking as I hold the gas pedal halfway. With all the trees, I could not see the other side of the turn. There are so many of them, it?s like a tall and dark castle wall. I finish the turn into a short straight away. And there it is, the dangerously fun S-curve. I could see it a few car lengths away. It?s a quick right, then left, then back to the right again. The best thing about it, there is no wall of trees blocking my view of all three corners. Because of that, I realize I can drive faster through this one. A quick decision to slam the gas, gives me the tingles already. I grab the shifter, down gear into second. The adrenaline kicks up a thousand notches with tingles running through my body like ants. I punch the gas pedal with my right foot to the floor, and I feel like I sweated a bucket already. The exhaust screams as I am pushed back into the seats black slippery leather.

The German machine is trying to out accelerate my body, like being inside an airplane when it is taking off the runway. The stiff suspension vibrates the steering wheel even over the smallest bumps, holding it feels like shooting an AK-47 machine gun. For a short moment, the sun glares on the windshield peaking through some trees like a bright flashlight directly in your eyes at night. I try to peak through the glare, focusing my vision on the start of turn one.

The Porsche racing in to the turn at 50 MPH. I’m still thinking I can go faster toward the second turn. The adrenaline is so high, I?m not so sure about the speed anymore. But I still keep the gas pedal super glued to the floor, and I?m not letting go. A quick twist of the wheels to the left for turn number two, the Porsche stiff like a bench, barely leans on one side. As I reach the apex of turn two, I feel a light drift on the back wheels, a quick moment where I feel like I am floating on air. The RPM of the engine is almost maxed out at 6500 screaming, two more seconds and turn number three begins, I realize I am going way too fast for this one.

And this is where I make my mistake.

Completely let go of the gas pedal, the back drive wheels almost lock as if I pulled the e-brakes. Something every professional driver knows not to do. The whole world revolves around me as my Porsche is sent in to a 180 spin. I feel like I am in a roller coaster loosing my sense of direction, not knowing where I am flying. It happens so fast, all I can see outside the car is a big blur similar to a bad photo shot of a moving photo-camera.

The feeling of helplessness is terrifying, but it?s too late, there is nothing I can do but just wait. Wait for only a couple seconds that feel like eternity. The spin is over, but the car slides backwards and comes to a stop. I don?t move for three seconds, frozen like ice, my heart pounding like a boom-box in a low-rider truck.

Now all I can see is white tire smoke ahead of me filling the forest like a thick fog. Some smoke came through the gaps in the doors smelling like burned rubber. I am excited with relief that I am not hurt, and the car is still on the road, not in a tree. And what a relief it is, almost like seeing death, and then being alive again. Feeling secure after the action, I realize I want to live so I casually drive home relaxing with joy. Being in a few car wrecks, and getting in trouble with the law, I learned this kind of excitement is very expensive and not worth the life threatening risk.

Still, Canyon Racing continues to grow in popularity across the world.

Porsche 911 Bags Top Sports Car Commendation -

Sold from 1948 through 1965, the Porsche 356 was Porsche’s first production automobile. Although many think of the Porsche 64 as being the first automobile produced by the German company, the 64 was never mass-produced. It was only an operable concept car and testing platform for the company’s design ideas. The 364, created by Ferdinand Porsche and his son Ferry Porsche, was designed by Erwin Komenda. Its engine features were derived from the Volkswagen Beetle, which was also designed by the senior Mr. Porsche.

Initially the models available were a coupe, cabriolet (luxury convertible) and a roadster (a stripped down convertible). The Porsche 356 underwent several changes before being withdrawn in 1965. The most sought-after variants of the car were the 356 “Carrera” (which often sold for over $150,000), the “Super 90″ and the famous “Speedster”. The original selling price for a Porsche was around $4,000 in the 1950s.

It was in 1954 that Max Hoffman, the only importer of Porsches into United States, told Porsche that he needed a lower cost, racier version of the 356 to entice the American driver. To this end the company created the 356 “Speedster”. It became a instant hit, featuring a low, raked windshield (easily removable for weekend racing), bucket seats, and minimal folding top. Today this car is still widely coveted and premium examples of the model have sold for over $100,000. It has also been used in several films, including “48 Hours”, its sequel — “Another 48 Hours”, and “Top Gun”. The production of Speedster peaked at 1,171 cars in 1957. It was replaced 1959 by the Convertible D model. This model featured a taller, more practical windshield, glass side windows, and more comfortable seats.

Even as the mechanical side of the Porsche improved year after year, the basic shape of Porsche 356 remained the same and was easily recognized. The last 356B Roadster was built in early 1963, but the coupe and cabriolet models were produced every year up to 1965. The final model built was the 356C, featuring disc brakes and the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche so far: the 95HP “SC”.

Porsche 356 production peaked at 14,151 cars in 1965, the same year that Porsche introduced the 911. The company continued to sell the 356C in North America through the end of 1965 as a lower-cost option to the higher-performance 911. When the customers continued to complain about the high the price of the 911, which was almost twice the price of the 356, Porsche started producing the 912. This car utilized the 356 engine and was sold between 1965 and 1969.

56 years after the beginning of its production, Sports Car International named the 356C as number ten on its list of Top Sports cars of the 60’s. Having stood the test of time, the 356 is a well respected and coveted car among collectors today. Thousands of 356 owners worldwide maintain the tradition, preserving their cars and through them the legacy of Porsche engineering excellence.

Although we’ve seen so many spy shots of this car that it almost feels like a foregone conclusion, Porsche has finally released an official teaser photo of its forthcoming Panamera Gran Turismo.

The controversial four-door will continually be teased on a new segment of Porsche’s website, www.porsche.com/panamera, which is slated to include video footage of disguised prototypes and other information. Today’s teaser image issuance begins the start of what is sure to be a substantial amount of marketing around this pivotal Porsche.

The Panamera is expected to be available with V-6 and V-8 power from launch, and a hybrid version is under development. All-wheel drive is also believed to be part of the program. The drivetrain bits are said to borrow heavily from the Cayenne, which makes sense, as the Panamera platform will underpin the next generation model of the company’s SUV.

The Leipzig, Germany built Panamera is slated to make its global debut in the spring, with the first copies hitting roads in late summer or early fall of 2009.

Porsche Boxster. When You Can’t Afford A 911 -

Porsche enthusiasts are excited about the new offer from Porsche. This offer is all about the permanent all-wheel drive given by the automaker to Porsche 911 Targa. The vehicle is now on sale.

All-wheel drive (AWD), otherwise called as four-wheel drive, 4×4, 4WD, is a term used to describe a 4-wheeled vehicle with a drivetrain that is capable of allowing all the four wheels to simultaneously get power from the engine. This feature is commonly associated with off-road vehicles nonetheless; all-wheel drive is crucial in providing better control on slippery ice and race tracks on paved streets.

The term is originally used to describe truck-like vehicles that necessitate switching between a 2-wheel drive mode for roads and a 4-wheel drive mode for low traction conditions like ice, gravel and mud. AWD is common for identical drivetrain systems that will be marketed for both the upmarket and downmarket branding. However, it is also common for different drivetrain systems that will be marketed under the same name for brand homogeny.

Porsche aficionados can now enjoy the fact that AWD is now made permanent for Targa. Aside from the AWD, Targa is equipped with lots of breath-taking Porsche car parts. Both Targa and 996 have common denominator and said feature contribute significantly to its “wow factor.” The striking feature is the huge glass roof and opening rear window. The glass roof plus the rear window are capable of inviting light and fresh air when they are left opened. The glass roof can be opened by up to half a meter in a matter of 7 seconds. This can be done by employing 2 electric motors. According to the automaker, to fully open the roof, it would take about 0.45 square meters.

Porsche factory parts for the roof panel of Targa are built of 2-ply tinted glass, which is lighter by 1.9kg than its predecessor. The automaker has developed a sealing system that minimizes wind noise. Also, wind deflector reduces turbulence inside the car. Targa also allows open-air free-spirited driving when outside temperature is accommodating. Subsequently, the semi-translucent roller sunblind is used to provide shade in the interior of the car when the roof is closed. The roller blind and the glass roof can be maneuvered using a rocker switch.

Porsche 911 Targa is powered by 3.6-litre six cylinder 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine that delivers 239kW. The S variant, the most powerful among the variants, uses a 3.8-litre engine that produces a top speed of 355bhp. The car is also equipped with Porsche VarioCam Plus valve control system, Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), and other striking car features.
