REPORT: Porsche considering 914 revival (Autoblog)
Filed under: Convertibles , Sports/GTs , Porsche , Volkswagen Click above for a hi-res gallery of the Porsche 914 Once every 40 years or so, when the stars are aligned just right, there arises the cosmic possibility for Volkswagen and Porsche to collaborate on a small sportscar. The stars in question seem to be Porsche chairman Dr. Ferdinand Piech, a spirit of takeover cooperation between the two German automakers, and the input of third-party contractor Karmann. It was Dr. Piech, the same man who has been driving Porsche’s takeover of the Volkswagen group, who had ushered the original Porsche 914 into reality. But when Volkswagen launches its latest concept at the LA Auto Show this November, it hopes the little Elise fighter will garner enough attention to put the project into production as soon as 2011 with versions for both VW and Porsche. The original Porsche 914 was based largely on borrowed Volkswagen mechanicals. Karmann was also heavily involved in the 914 project, and could be tapped once again to build the new sportscar for both Volkswagen and Porsche, with the project potentially spawning an Audi R4, as well. Although some sources suggest the Porsche version could adopt the 2.7-liter flat six from the base Boxster, with Zuffenhausen admittedly considering the possibility of going back to four-cylinder engines , anything’s possible. Sources point out, however, that the four-cylinder version of the 914 was the top selling model. While you consider the idea of a budget Porsche, check out the high-resolution images of original 914 images in the gallery below. A Fleet Manager’s Opus: One Rough Week of Driving at NextAutos
Some weeks are just better than others.
The NextAutos staff is lucky enough to have access to a rotating weekly fleet of press vehicles that run the gamut from entry-level budget wheels, to hyper-expensive exotic sports cars. And while on most weeks there are a few cars whose keys could cause a scuffle, every now and again the fates align to make us truly spoiled for choice.
<!–break–>We were stupendously excited with our options over the last few days, finding ourselves the short-term guardians of some truly spectacular machinery. Porsche’s latest Cayenne, the GTS, rubbed shoulders with the luxurious Mercedes-Benz CLS550, as well as the hard(er)core SL63 AMG. There was also a pair of handsome Italians from Maserati beautifying our parking spaces, a Quattroporte sedan and an undeniably sexy GranTurismo. Audi’s European spec A4 with the brilliant 3.0-liter TDI (loaned to us by Bosch), may not have the massive price tag to keep up in this company, but that hasn’t stopped us from falling quite utterly in love with it (it’s a looker too).
We’ve got plans to bring you in-depth fleet reviews and impressions about each of these phenomenal machines, but we couldn’t let the moment pass without having a little fun with our super-lux horde. Below you’ll find a few back of the napkin calculations about the total prowess and expense of our big six, as well as the fleet specs averaged out below it. Then make sure to browse our impromptu photo shoot of the group in the gallery above.

Spy Shots: New Porsche 911 GT3 spied in Spain (Autoblog)
Filed under: Spy Photos , Sports/GTs , Porsche Hardcore Porschephiles rejoice, for Stuttgart is preparing a new 911 GT3. It should come as no big surprise since the entire 911 range has once again received a facelift, so following the Carrera , Carrera 4 and Targa models, we can expect a new Turbo, a new GT3 and a new GT2 . Apparently the naturally-aspirated hardcore model is the next up to bat, if these spy shots snapped cliffside in Spain serve as any indication. The shots make for easy comparison: the new GT3 seems to blend elements from the outgoing model and its yet more hardcore brother the GT3 RS, both of which can be seen alongside the new test mule (second from the right, straight on till morning). Expect the same updates found on the rest of the revised range, plus a wing that lies somewhere in between that found on the current GT3 and the current GT3 RS. The centrally-mounted exhaust pipes look bigger than the previous version, but that’s all we can tell from the rear shots at this point. With a little patience, we’ll be able to see the new GT3 undisguised shortly. [Source: World Car Fans ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Porsche Prepping Hardcore Cayman RS?
After recently seeing spied images that hinted towards a possible RS version of Porsche’s popular Boxster , new evidence in the form of this photo set would seem to indicate that the Cayman may be getting the RS treatment as well.
The blazing orange Cayman S seen here has an expanded rear wing which is fixed in position, as well a set of splitters up front that would indicate an enhanced model. A Cayman RS would theoretically be stripped down for advanced performance on the track, perhaps even getting a mild bump in power in the process.
We’ll likely know for certain what exactly Porsche is up to after the Geneva Motor Show next March, and are free to let our imaginations wander in the meantime. Scroll down to read the shooter’s own words and check out the beefy Cayman in our gallery above.
Last month we showed you a possible Porsche Boxster RS with big fixed wing in the rear. Now it’s time for a possible RS version of the Cayman.
With a different front spoiler with splitters, and a bigger rear spoiler this Cayman looks different than the normal Cayman S. In this case the rear spoiler also looks like it’s fixed.
Whether it’s really a RS version or not, our guess is that we have to wait at least until the Geneva Car Show in March to get an answer. But it sure looks interesting and we also believe that a lot of Porsche freaks would love a hard core stripped out Cayman RS.
We can just dream about 30-40 horsepower more and 100 kg less. But sometimes dreams come true.

Our First Look at the Next Generation Porsche Cayman?
New product development appears to be in full swing these days at Porsche. In the last few days we’ve already seen glimpses of what appear to be RS spec models of the current Boxster and Cayman, and now comes evidence that the sports car builder is working on an entirely new generation for both models – possibly hitting the market as early as 2012.
The Cayman mule shown in our clandestine photographs reveals bolt-on wheel arches which are a good indicator that a wider track is in store for the new car. We can also expect that the next gen Cayman will get Porsches all-new PDK dual-clutch gearbox, as well as the next generation direct injection engine technology.
Our spy shooter has also gotten word that this generation Boxster and Cayman could get a platform mate in the Volkswagen line, though the VW would likely only get four-cylinder engine options.
Porsche has started development of the new platform for the next generation Cayman and Boxster as seen on these photos. This new generation will partly be build by Magna Steyr in Austria instead of Valmet in Finland.
The wider wheel arches give it away that the track might be slightly wider than the current model, but hopefully it want grow too much in length.
Some of the new features that will already come in the facelifted versions of the current model, due in spring 2009, will of course also be available in the new generation. Like the new PDK dual-clutch gearbox and the new engines with fuel direct injection. Rumors are also talking about a VW sports car based on the same platform, but probably just with four-cylinder engines. New Cayman and Boxster is due for 2012.

Porsche to revive 914? (Leftlane)
Volkswagen Chairman Martin Winterkorn has already confirmed that VW will be showing a mid-engine roadster at this November’s Los Angeles Auto Show, but a new report indicates that the new model might not be solely reserved for the VW badge. Thanks to Porsche’s close ties with VW, the German sports car maker is reportedly [...]

Porsche considering a new 914? (Top Speed)
Posted on 09.11.2008 12:33 by Myles Kornblatt Filed under: Porsche | roadster | future cars Porsche may be looking to go smaller than the Boxster, and the pieces may already be in place. The new roadster may be the re-birth of the 914, a small mid-engined targa-top sports car Porsche produced in the 70s using mostly Volkswagen parts. Just like the original 914, if Porsche were to make the new car, it would pull from VW again. Specifically using Volkswagen’s upcoming roadster (also possibly Audi’s R4) as a base. To make sure this car is uniquely Porsche, the company will most (…) Permalink | Comments

Next Generation Porsche 911 Spied!
While Porsche has just finished launching its new 911, the car is really more of a half step between true generational changes for the seminal sports car. So with the 997.5 911 heading out to customers, the German automaker has unleashed the very first stages of its test program for the next car, the 998 model 911.
The Porsche faithful will be unsurprised (and no doubt a bit relieved) to see that the 998 seems at first blush to be another tiny step in the glacial visual evolution that is 911 design. We can make out a set of more robustly blistered fenders, hinting at a slightly wider track, but not a lot else at this point to differentiate the car from its 997 older brother. Expect more and further visual changes as the spy shots continue to roll in, before the car makes its expected debut in 2011.
Scroll down to read the shooter’s own words.
The 997 facelift has just been official, and that was the sign that the test crew from Porsche where waiting for. Now they can concentrate them self in testing the next generation 911, probably named 998.
Here are the first photos of that early test mule. We can clearly see the wider fenders on this prototype indicating that the car at least seems to be wider, length still looks the same. But we have to remember, this is still an very early mule and a lot can change until 2011 when the 998 is expecting to hit the showrooms
